Turkish Carpets - The Turkish Government has a program to preserve the art of handmade carpet making where they will bring women from mountain villages to the city to work in a carpet factory for a year to learn how to make carpets. After they have been trained they are given a loom and materials to take back to their villages where they can continue to make carpets from home, allowing them to support their family and maintain the traditions of carpet making.
